Stories can often get off to such an intriguing start that you think, “This is going to be a blast!” But in the midst, their magic fails. One such film is Weapons movie review. This film, which stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Zack Cregger, makes you shiver at first but leaves you feeling unfulfilled at the conclusion.

A story that starts with fear

A young girl’s gentle yet ominous voice opens the hollywood movie Weapons. She describes how 17 kids from the same class got out of bed at 2:17 in the morning and wandered the pitch-black streets before going missing for no apparent reason. The audience is instantly drawn into the story’s web because of how eerie and enigmatic this start is.

Zack Cregger, who starred in the 2022 horror film Barbarian, has returned with a tale of enigmatic disappearance in a tiny American community. At first, the premise might sound a little archaic like a Stephen King tale but it feels novel and captivating in the first few scenes of the movie.

The characters and their conflicts

Justine Grady (Julia Garner), a teacher in a small town where everyone is related to someone, enters her vacant classroom one morning. Alex (Carey Christopher) is the only child seated there. Where are the other kids? The irate parents, particularly Archer Graff (Josh Brolin), ask Justine, “Why don’t you know anything?”

As an alcoholic who keeps watch outside Alex’s house, Justine has her own secrets. Policeman Paul (Alden Ehrenreich), with whom she has a long-standing relationship, is also not a flawless officer. Anthony (Austin Abrams), a heroin addict, unintentionally observes something that he probably shouldn’t have.

Additionally, Andrew (Benedict Wong), the school principal, tries to ask Alex if he overheard his buddies plotting to flee. Amy Madigan, Alex’s aunt, who is caring for Alex, claims that her parents are sick and that she is filling in for them.

Where the story starts to go astray

At this moment, the movie opens up a lot of possibilities. However, the plot takes a sharp turn and follows a road that the viewer has seen numerous times before. The movie raises a societal topic, such as school shootings in America, which may have made for a compelling and in-depth narrative.

However, the mystery and excitement lessen as the movie goes on. Over time, the suspense and terror that first hold you riveted to your seat diminish. The story’s power is diminished by the “big reveal” at the end, and viewers begin to wonder, “Is that all?”
