Detective Sherdil is sure to attract your attention if you enjoy Diljit Dosanjh and want to see him as a humorous, fashionable, and Instagram-friendly detective. However, this movie does not live up to the expectations of a complex murder mystery. Although the novel makes an effort to be engaging, there are some obvious flaws in its structure.
Detective Sherdil’s style is unique, but the effect is incomplete
A rap song that opens the movie demonstrates Detective Sherdil’s confidence and swag. However, throughout the movie, the serious side of a detective is lost. More than resolving the crime, Sherdil is seen posing for the camera. He is there, but he doesn’t do anything.
Murder mystery has less mystery, more showoff
As the Detective Sherdil movie goes on, the murder of a wealthy businessman and his will become central to the plot. Every character is under suspicion, including the driver, boyfriend, and family. However, the audience is unable to establish a connection because of the mystery’s overall lack of gravity and the events’ unstoppable flow.
The script is lost in stylish frames and fast transitions
The film’s appearance and cinematography are appealing. However, the depth of the story and characters could not be developed because the filmmaker focused more on camera angles and vibrant scenery. Voiceovers, music video-style transitions, and flashbacks are superfluous and slow down the story.
The acting is strong, but the characters are incomplete
Although Diljit Dosanjh has a sense of humor, his persona does not convey the detective’s seriousness. Although actors like Banita Sandhu, Sumeet Vyas, Boman Irani, and Ratna Pathak Shah undoubtedly fill the screen, the writing does not provide them with a platform that allows them to fully shine.
